Why I Switched to Progressive..

I got my car insurance bill for this next 6 month period with American Family Insurance Group, and it went from $942 to $1892 for the six month term.  Why?  An accident I got in April 2006!  Almost two years pass and it just now shows on my record for them :-/.  1892 for six months is NOT affordable, I thought I was going to have to sell my car, because I could not afford full coverage.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s an awesome insurance company, every experience I’ve had with them has been very fast and effective.  From going in to pay my bill to filing a claim for a total loss, they were sensitive of my needs and treated me like a real person, not some idiot who screwed up and totalled his car (which I in fact am).  However my premium doubling 2 years after the fact is just too much for me.  I got some quotes online, I got a few around $1500, a few around $1000, some as low as $800… but progressive had everyone beat, $755 for six months, I customized my plan to match my coverage under American Family, even increased coverage in a few areas, lowered my deductible down to $100.  Still with 4 tickets and an at-fault accident on my record, I was quoted and am now covered under Progressive at $755 for six months.  I can’t believe I was paying so much in the past.  I wonder what I’ll be paying in the next year and a half when all the violations fall off my record, and I reach 25..  kind of excited to see, actually, lol.  Either way, I don’t know a lot about how Progressive works, which makes me a little nervous, I don’t know how long I’ll have to wait if I ever file a claim or how difficult, or not difficult they are to deal with.  What I do know is that there is a contractual agreement on the coverages I’ll recieve, and a less than half price rate.  I don’t plan on having to make any claims, but if one comes up I think I can deal with less than good customer service (which may not even be the case) in exchange for the huge amount of money I am now saving,  as long as they DO take care of me, I don’t care how long it takes, lol.. If I ever have to file a claim for anything, I’ll make sure to post my experience here.
